I do not know why you will not notice the difference, but the amount
of data is in general not high enough to benefit from gigabit network
cards, actually the query takes alot more time than the actual
transfer of the result.
I use gigabit network on separate internal swith myself for all server
connectivity, but that is only for running good benchmark,
but the gigabit speed has no real impact on normal use.
