Jonathan,

I started out in marketing for commercial software companies. I got
sick of having lousy (or no) tools to track my projects and
streamline my workflow, so I started writing my own. Other people
thought they were useful too, so I started a company to develop
marketing and print workflow tools (all web-based) for others. My
college degrees are in Journalism and History.

Particularly where FileMaker is involved, I think you'll find a lot
of people who "backed into" software development.
