[FX.php List] can only create 4 records before timeout

If the layout you are referring to during creation has all 200 fields (or even just more than you need), then I'd definitely try your option (2.) first. Here I have many layouts for different purposes, and putting only the fields needed to accomplish the purpose makes great speed improvements.
