No client has ever asked for a data separation model. It sounds like you
have a challenging client.  Buzz words don't work on do it yourselfers.
Attack the problem from a business case. Look at the best way to give him
the maximum lift for each dollar he invests.  Look at the problem from his
perspective. When you listen to him, he will tell you how to provide the
best solution.  Think like a business man, not like a programmer.

Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

This is a mission critical system that in my opinion is patched together
with quick fixes and many badly designed relationships. His business is
manufacturing and service. Many employees are outside the building.

My customer is a do it yourselfer (non programmer) and will take shorcuts
then leave me the fallout. I am his consultant, I do want the best solution
in the long run. I want to propose a data separated model both in FileMaker
and the web interface.
I see the system as a hybrid of the three technologies but my customer wants
to make it all IWP. So I am looking for "buz phrases" to help defend my
proposal.

I know there are cases where IWP works well, but not in this case.
