Todd,
Yes, FX.php has ODBC support built in, and yes I've used it to connect
to FileMaker (though on the Mac side, prior to FM9, XML was
faster...) I've tried other database abstraction classes, and didn't
really care for them, but I do like FX (obviously ;-) FX.php can also
be used to connect to OpenBase and MySQL, in addition to the most
commonly used FileMaker connections.
As for what it's for, I assume that as PHP gains momentum within the
FileMaker community, some folks will need to connect to in-house SQL
databases in addition to FileMaker; and FX.php will allow them to
continue to use a familiar interface. Also, note that the SQL for
basic queries can be built internally by FX, so that for simple needs,
a user does not need to know any SQL.
