But that's my point - they're not "strange characters", they're a
combination of HTML and JavaScript comment characters. They need to be
deployed as a matching set, or not at all. You don't need another script if
its only problem was mismatched comment characters. If the script is in fact
fundamentally broken, and you're not sure, how do you know that a
replacement will be any better?

Besides, at the end of the day you still need server-side validation, as Bob
suggests in his reply.
