[FX.php List] get portal info or another 2 queries - no related data

A (hmmm...) straight forward question...

I have several tables with related data in others.  Is 
easier/faster/better to make 1 query and retrieve/parse possibly lots 
of portal information (foreach...$relationship::field...) or make 2 
instances of FX, getting less data from each table (layout)?

May be a novice question!  Thanks!
