(The other was the improved interaction with iOS.) I had hoped to be able to have files in container fields (JPG photos) that I'd easily be able to access by a different machine than the one running FMS. I actually had hoped to have the photos ON this other machine, by setting the Base Directory to be on the other machine, using the network path method. Guess what, you can do that with regular FileMaker Pro 12, but FileMaker SERVER will not let you have the files for the containers anywhere but in the Databases folder, a few levels down. So, to work around this I had hoped to have PHP on the web server machine be able to read in an image file ( using $image = imagecreatefromjpeg($source_filename); ) and then do some work on it, namely some shrinking and "branding", all on the fly. But I can't seem to get this to work. I'm guessing it might be permissions, or the way I'm specifying the path, but I'm unsure how to figure out what's wrong. I've tried an alias of the FMS's images folder in the PHP directory (which works using the Finder) and I tried afp://username:password@FMSMachine...etc. for the file name. It's easy to get the actual path to the needed image file in FileMaker and pass it through FX.php to the web server, but I can't get the file. Any thoughts? BTW, Chris's new grammar handling is still working flawlessly, which is why I'm finally moving forward. -Troy From tcmeyers at troymeyers.com Wed Sep 5 19:41:39 2012 From: tcmeyers at troymeyers.com (Troy Meyers) Date: Wed Sep 5 18:57:03 2012 Subject: [FX.php List] [Off?] Accessing files on other machines with PHP Message-ID: I've been warned off doing anything (EVEN READING) files stored by FMS as externally-saved container files. There are a number of options of how to approach it, but the simple one I envisioned (just reading the container files were FMS placed them) isn't advisable. I guess I'll just go with letting FMS spew out the images to my PHP for now, until I see that it's too much of a bottleneck. At that point I guess I'll have FileMaker periodically do needed exports to be placed in an image directory on the web server. The text and HTML content of our site is produced here with FX, etc., and since it's not a large volume of data the slow connection speed isn't bad. Recently it's been very difficult to upload images to MegaPath (the company that "ate" Speakeasy). It could be our connection (CenturyLink), though I don't think it is, but the real problem is that MegaPath's customer support is nearly nonexistent. A year or two ago I got CI to work with FX.php using the Wiki example. However, I didn't like the incomplete demo and URL method. Also, since then, CI updated its version and my code no longer works when I tried again this week. I then found a example by Dan Smith, I think, showing an MVC model for FMP and CI. When I tried his demo I ended up with a blank page as soon as the code tried to require_once ('FileMaker.php'). Today I found a note from someone else who ran in to the same issue, and dealt with this by moving the require from the controller page to the main index.php page. This enabled the original demo to work, and now I am able to see data again. I'm still wrapping my head around the "model" part and how to improve the "view" into more CSS friendly pages, but at least I can see data rather than a blank page, and the controller appears to work correctly. Is anyone else working with FileMaker and CodeIgniter? Any other frameworks? I've used Joomla and FMP, but CodeIgniter seems to have a smaller footprint and cleaner framework (at least, for now). Message-ID: Hi folks, After having great success with Chris's recent update to FX in sorting out the FM12 portal issues, things now seemed to have regressed somewhat. Out of the blue, I'm now getting a different result using 'fmalt' than I was previously. For related fields contained within a portal, the array index is now what I assume to be the recid.modid for the portal row: [studentData::absencesCurrentCountNumber] => Array ( [1054.91] => 12 ) I'm used to that number being 0 (or incremented from 0), and my code assumes it too. If I revert back to 'fmpro7', it *is* 0, and my code works properly again. The weird thing is, I'm *certain* that when I first implemented the new version and tested it with 'fmalt', it worked normally, so I can't account for why it has changed all of a sudden. Non-portal data (even related) is fine. Just to clarify, this is the result using both FMSA11 & FMSA12, though using the latter with 'fmpro7' triggers the original XML issue. Any clues? Message-ID: <64C2CDCC.35D7.49C5.9461.95FBD5D436BA@111.1163952> Bev, I have one issue with it in terms of drop-it-in-and-it-works compatibility. The latest version (at least the latest I have) no longer includes the username:password@ portion of the query URL in the returned array ['URL'] element. That's not necessarily a bad thing for security reasons (in case someone is carelessly using print_r on a public page) but it does happen to break some code I'm using. I'd be happy to rewrite that code, but it does present an issue for those who just want it to work exactly like it used to, and rely on that URL. I've mentioned this to Chris but I'm not sure what approach he'll take. Maybe another option switch like the $usePortalIDs mentioned earlier? -Troy > Several of us are testing it. When I run a query using the -dbnames action, without setting other attributes, i.e. no layout, no max, no db, etc. Here is the code: $strError = ''; $resultError = 0; $query = new FX(FM_IP, FM_PORT, FM_VERSION, SCHEME); $query -> SetDBUserPass(FM_USERNAME, FM_PASSWORD); $result = $query -> FMDBNames(); I get an error '4: Command is unknown' and the following url: http://user:pass@127.0.0.1:80/fmi/xml/FMPXMLRESULT.xml?-db=&-max=&-dbnames This url works on prior versions of the WPE. If you manually change the code to: http://user:pass@127.0.0.1:80/fmi/xml/FMPXMLRESULT.xml?-dbnames The xml describing available files is returned. I know this is a small issue; I use it only to assure we avoid 100 errors (File is missing) later in the process. You still need an action in there to actually cause FX to communicate with FileMaker. When it's something like just running a script (i.e. the record pulled up in irrelevant to what the script is going to do), I usually use a findany request, as it's really quick -- only ever returning a single random record. So that would be either FMFindAny() or DoFXAction('show_any'), depending on your preference. Let me know if you have any questions about this. However, when I try to spin these out into my page (approx. 10 fields each record, none of which contain more than about 20 characters or so), my page times out. So to test the page, I then did a date-range query, and when I get the results below about 60, it shows them just fine. If I bump up the date range to include 113 found records, the page fails. I'm in FMS12, single-machine config; everything else works fine, including this page when I do other queries; how can I determine what's causing this, and how do I remedy it? Then run it again and check your PHP error log. 28 sep 2012 kl. 18.53 skrev Bob Patin: > I'm using FX.php. > > What does setRange do? In fx.php, it's called FMSkipRecords($skipsize). FMSkipRecords ($skipSize) This function is used to specify which record in the found set should be the first returned to FX. For example: $skipSize = $skipSize + $groupSize; $InstanceName->FMSkipRecords($skipSize); This would increment the number of records skipped by the value stored in $groupSize, and then pass that parameter to FX so that $skipSize records will be skipped and the next $groupSize number of records will be returned by the current query. Just add $request->FMSkipRecords(60); With the, data will start on records 61 and you will see if it chokes from the data or the size of the data. J >I'm using FX.php. > >What does setRange do? Here's something else I'm seeing now, as I work on this: I have a SEARCH function, and when I put in a date range (like 5/1/2012...6/1/2012), I return 129 records, and these too fail to display. So this makes me wonder if there are just too many fields in his database and it's choking FX. I have about 150 fields or so on his web layout (I didn't design this database...); my question is this: I assume that when I return data, the only fields that are returned are those on the web layout, is that right? Most of these fields are empty on almost every record, and the few that have data contain only a half-dozen characters at most. SO... having said that, what is choking this?
