So if the bulk of the content being served was static HTML and/or HTML delivered from another CMS etc, then that could be handled by multiple load-balanced web serves, each of which 'talks; to a single FMS web deployment (be that a 1, 2 or 3 machine FMS install)

But each FM Server can only *listen* to one Web Publishing Engine, and that's a consideration; we use that here for a client who has his own web server but not his own database server. In essence, he *borrows* the Web Pub Engine on another web server and his queries are done that way.

The one consideration with SyncDeK is that a sync cycle can take a while if a lot of records are being written. For the solution that I manage where they have 2 SyncDeK systems, a sync cycle can sometimes be 1500-2000 records, all of which were created or edited in the last 3 minutes. What SyncDeK does is to start the next cycle x minutes after the current one ends, so even if you were to tell SyncDeK to run a sync every 60 seconds (we use 3 minutes right now, it installs with a default of 5), if you take a 1-minute sync cycle time, add it to the length of time a cycle can take (the design of tables can make a huge difference, as I've found out), you can sometimes have a 10-15 time lapse between cycles.

So is it an instant fall-over if you were to go from server A to server B? Well, not necessarily.

Also, you'd have to use some load-balancing software so that the domain would respond to the backup system.

What we do is to use a machine that is primarily used for web transactions; this syncs to the 2 main systems, sending web transactions to the venues where tickets need to be present in order for customers to visit the facilities. We don't have backup web servers, but we *do* have backup data services since each of the 2 (soon to be 4) SyncDeK systems has its mirror node.
