[FX.php List] [OFF] fmCakeMix Install problems

I'm hoping someone here can help. 

I've installed CakePHP v2 and I'm trying to set up fmCakeMix. When I connect to the cake folder I get a nicely formatted page that tells me that "Cake is NOT able to connect to the database."

 I am following the instructions provided in the FMCakeMix user guide. The only difference that I can see is that I'm pointing to a remote server.

Are there any tricks to getting this set up?
