[FX.php List] [OFF] Question about RDNS

An early Happy New Year to Fx.php'ers round the world.

Pardon the off topic nature of this question. However, the issue
applies to any fx.hp installation with more than one machine. While
I could ask the question in a DNS forum, few folks would share
similar circumstances. Hopefully, the answer will be helpful to
others on the list.

After running a single machine for 2 years, running OS X Server, Web
server, email server and FMSA 8.5, I recently split the installation
into 2 machines. The FMSA went to its own machine. The question is
how to deal with Revervse DNS on the second machne.

With a single machine, there was no issue: everything was on a single
IP with the RDNS pointing back the single domain: exit445.com.

Wth two machines, I'm trying different RDNS settings to try and get
it right. I currently have the second machine set up with the RDNS
name THE SAME as the first machine. While things do work, several
entities do not like that set up. Both OS X Server and DNS Stuff
complain that the RDNS setting points back to the same domain that is
set up for machine 1.

I DO have addl domains I could use instead of the original
(exit445.com). I have exit45a and exit445b also. However, I wanted
to stay associated with the the original domain because of email
deliverability. (I also send email campaigns from machine 2).

Is the solutions using a subdomain or virtual domain for RDNS on the
second machine...such as "server2.exit445.com"? That way, it still
uses the original base domain but it doesn't conflict with machine 1?

I JUST figured out how to create subdomains on OS X server, so I'm ready.

I realize that large companies have dozens of machines sharing the
same domain. I just need to cross the line from 1 to 2.

Thanks

Jonathan
