I tried all the free php-pdf solutions and have never had
satisfactory results. It is not cheap, but the commercial PDF-Lib
(http://www.pdflib.com/) , to my miind, gives the best results and
would recommend it highly for commercial use.

P.S. There is a MacOS X version of PHP 5 at http://www.entropy.ch/
software/macosx/php/ that has PDF-Lib included otherwise you would
need to recompile php to use PDF-lib.
