[FX.php List] Is anyone using FX.php with FMStudio

Hi Bob,

We certainly encourage people to learn FX.php. Here is how FMStudio can
help, and yes you should take a look, it is completely different than
FXForge.

* First, it enables individuals without any web knowledge to begin
developing FileMaker web driven solutions.
* Second, Once you create a live data connection, you can see the fields,
layouts and tables, if I want to see how to code a field, I can drag a field
onto the template, and go to code view, and there's the code. It makes it
very simple to learn.
* Third, what if I have a database with 40 fields that need to be added to
a table. I can just drag and drop, no worrying about cutting and pasting
and incorrectly spelling fields. I can simply drag and drop and voila, I
know the fields are correct, and I can also automatically see my data live.
* Fourth, Time saving options. We added features to save time for both
novice and the professional. You create a table, drag some fields on, then
switch to code view. Where we have added code hinting and code coloring.
* Fifth, This is a Dreamweaver extension so you are not at the mercy of the
plug-in. If you want to hand code, hand code, if you want to use our
wizards and dynamic code features you can. The code generated is very
simple code, and we provide all of the resources to help you along the way:)
The code written is basic FX.php code. You are never painted into a corner.
* Sixth, Productivity, FMStudio has enabled me and others to code 30-50
percent faster than hand coding. I can quickly develop solutions...and add
any necessary hand coding once needed.

 Just some basic thoughts.

While I'm sure that FMStudio is useful, I tend to believe that the best
approach to writing PHP code for FileMaker is to learn the syntax and write
it for each specific need. I copy and reuse my own code all the time, so I
don't have to rewrite basic functions each time, but without knowing how to
write it from scratch, I'd be totally at the mercy of this plugin, and would
be lost when I needed some more specific functions written. I can't help but
think that there are too many times when that I've needed functions on many
of the projects I've done, that FMStudio would not be able to do.
However, I say this without having seen FMStudio, so please correct me if
I'm wrong.

When I bought FXForge, I quickly realized that I needed to learn how to
write PHP code myself, which is what I did... and certainly haven't
regretted it.

My two bits...
